Practice does not make perfect. Practice with feedback makes perfect. Without feedback, you can repeat the same mistakes a thousand times and never improve. The ultimate goal is to internalize the feedback process so you can evaluate your own work accurately. Start by comparing your solutions to expert solutions and noting the differences. Over time, develop the habit of checking your own work systematically before consulting an answer key.
Ask yourself after each practice attempt: How confident am I in this answer? Where am I least certain? What would I need to verify? Then check the answer and compare your confidence to the outcome. This calibration practice builds the metacognitive skills that support independent learning.
Feedback Loops and the Path to Mastery
Mastery is not a destination you reach through sheer volume of practice. It is a state you approach through iterative cycles of attempt, feedback, and adjustment. Each cycle brings you closer, but only if the feedback is present, timely, and specific enough to guide the next iteration.
